5th Conference of Complex Urban Systems and Integrated Solutions | 21-22 November 2014, SCUT22/11/2014 On the afternoon of Nov. 17th 2012, the SCUT-TU Delft Joint Research Centre on Urban Systems and Environment was founded. The signing and unveiling ceremony were held by SCUT and Delft University of Technology in the Center Conference Room, Liwu Science and Technology Building, Wushan campus, SCUT. WANG Yingjun, president of SCUT, Dirk Jan van den Berg, president of Delft University of Technology, and Pieter Vooren, vice consul of Netherlands Consulate attended the ceremony. SCUT vice president ZHU Min hosted the ceremony.
On the ceremony, WANG Yingjun said that in recent years the two universities had established a solid foundation for cooperation and deep friendship and that the establishment of the joint research centre has built a good platform for the two parties to further strengthen the comprehensive cooperation. She also said that on the platform, both universities would better work on creating a high-quality living environment, building intelligent metropolis as well as the scientific development of the urban construction of the Pearl River Delta region. Dirk Jan van den Berg expressed in his speech the hope that the researchers of the centre would increase their strength in researches on eco-cities, low-carbon cities, knowledge-based cities and smart cities, and achieve fruitful results. Pieter Vooren spoke highly of the cooperation between the two universities and he hoped that both can work closely in the fields of research, in order to promote exchanges and cooperation between scholars from China and the Netherlands.
